Abstract

PURPOSE:To prevent dust such as paper powder or the like from adhering to an optical system by containing an optical system such as mirror provided on the way of a reading optical path of an original into an enclosed case and providing freely attachably and detachably a light source to choke an opening section of the case. CONSTITUTION:An optical system such as a mirror 27, lens 28 and a photodetector or the like is accommodated in an enclosed case 21 in a picture reading device irradiating an original from a light source and making its reflected light incident to a photodetector element 29 via a mirror 27 and a lens 28 to read picture information. A cover 21a and a bottom plate 21b support a transparent plate 20 fitted to the open part 21c to read the original 19. An open part 21c for the original 19 is formed near the end of the cover 21a toward the transparent plate 20, elastic members 24, 25 are fixed along the upper and lower end parts of the open part 21c and a rod shaped light source 26 is supported to the members 24, 25. Through the constitution above, no dust such as paper powder is adhered to the optical system and the replacement of the light source is attained easily.

On the other hand, an opening 21C is formed near the end of the cover 21a on the transparent plate 20 side along the width direction of the document, that is, the main scanning direction, and a sufficient width of the opening 21C is formed along the upper and lower edges of the opening 21C. Elastic members 24 and 25 are fixed. These members 24 and 25 support a rod-shaped light source 26 such as a fluorescent lamp, and when this light source 26 is attached, the opening 21C is closed and the housing 21 is sealed. A mirror 27 is fixed to the side surface of the housing 21 on the side away from the transparent plate 20, and the reflected light from the original 19 irradiated by the light source 26 is reflected by the mirror 27 and transmitted through the lens section 28 to the light receiving element. 29.

Effects As is clear from the above explanation, according to the present invention, a mirror and other optical systems provided in the middle of the optical path for reading a document are housed in a sealed housing, and a long and narrow part formed in a part of this housing is used. The structure uses a rod-shaped light source that is removably attached to close the opening, which prevents dust such as paper dust from adhering to the optical system and prevents the recording of incorrect information. Replacement is extremely easy.
