Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain a cigarette lighter which is compact, inexpensive and durable, by utilizing a shape memorizing alloy metal as a thermal responsive material which functions to detect a heating condition of a heater element. CONSTITUTION:When a reverse martensite change is caused to take place by heating up of a heater element 16 and subsequently of a contacting resillent member 30, the contacting resilient member 30 shows its inherent property of resuming a memorized shape. As the contacting resilient member 30 is memorized a shape that a spring shows in a fully elongated state, that is, it stores a length of elongation which realizes a relation Wo<WL+W'1 where W'1 is a compression load, and therefore a plug section is disengaged from a retention and then pushed backwardly to a normal position. In consequence, the heater element 16 is deenergized. Under such a state, the plug section 1 is withdrawn from a socket section 21 for igniting a cigarette.
