Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain a sintered alloy for machine parts with superior wear resistance by mixing an Fe-Cr-B alloy having a specified composition with graphite powder and iron powder after which the mixture is molded and sintered.
CONSTITUTION: A mixture is prepared consisting of 16W50wt% powder of an Fe-Cr-B alloy contg. 10W35wt% Cr and 1.0W2.5wt% B, 0.5W2.5wt% graphite powder and the balance iron powder such as atomized iron powder or reduced iron powder. The mixture may be further mixed with 2W15wt% at least one kind of powder of solid lubricating substance such as Cu, Pb or Sn. The mixture is then molded into a prescribed shape under 5W8t/cm2 pressure and sintered at 1,150W 1,200°C for 30W60min in a nonoxidizing atmosphere to obtain a sintered alloy with 5W35% porosity. By impregnating lubricating oil into the pores, a sintered material with superior wear resistance suitable for use as a member of a rocker arm for an internal combustion engine is manufactured.
