Abstract

PURPOSE:To maintain high refining power and to reduce the expense of slag by specifically combining fluoride or chloride of an alkaline earth metal, Fe or Ni oxide, etc. with an Na or K compound to prepare slag while reducing the amount of the Na or K compound used. CONSTITUTION:Dephosphorization is performed with slag consisting of, by wt., 30-70% fluoride and/or chloride of an lakaline earth metal, 1.0-30% of >=1 kinds of compounds selected from oxides and carbonates of Na and K, 5-50% Fe and/or Ni oxide and 0-<40% oxide and/or carbonate of an alkaline earth metal. The Si content of molten pig iron contg. >=3% Cr is kept <=0.2wt% and brought into contact with said slag while inhibiting the oxidation of Cr. Si is oxidized preferentially and hinders the oxidation of P, so less Si is desired. Said slag has a low m.p. and high solubilizing power. It dissolves the Na or K compound stably, controls the evaporation loss of the compound, and increases the reaction efficiency considerably.
