Abstract
PURPOSE: To foresee abnormality such as shell breakout and clogging and the cause for the same and make operation stable by embedding temp. detectors in the inlet part of a mold and monitoring the fluctuations of the output signals thereof.
CONSTITUTION: The detection of clogging is accomplished by utilizing the time average of the detection signals of the 1stW3rd temp. detectors 6W8 having increased differences in temp. from the normal time out of the 1stW4th temp. detectors 6W9. On the other hand, in case when no shells are formed in the inlet part of a mold 3, hence the so-called shell breakdown that the molten metal contacts the inside wall 3a of the mold directly takes place, the temp. detected with the 2nd temp. detector 7 produces sinusoidal oscillations in correspondence to drawing cycles, and further double peaks are generated in the oscillation of the temp. detected with the 3rd temp. detector 8 and the temp. detected with the 4th temp. detector 9 goes much higher as compared to the temp. detected in the normal time. Hence, the generation of the shell breakdown is detected by detecting the above-mentioned characteristics.
