Abstract

PURPOSE:To prevent the inclusion of powder in continuous casting by forming the section in the outside circumferential part of an immersion nozzle for continuous casting to a square or corrugated shape over the suitable range in the axial direction of the nozzle. CONSTITUTION:The discharge hole of a nozzle 1 is faced downward, and the shape of the section of the nozzle 1, that is, the shape in the outside circumferential part of the nozzle on which the flow of molten steel abuts is made as follows: the sectional shape of which the angle theta of the direction of the molten steel flow F4 diverged by colliding against the nozzle 1 and the molten steel flow F3 assumes >=45 deg. nozzle inside angle (the angle that it assumes to the central axis of the nozzle along the long sides of the molde). By the incorporation of such nozzle sectional shape, the molten steel flow F4 is collided against the inside wall 4-b of the mold, whereby turbulent flow is induced around the nozzle 1 and the collision against the opposite molten steel flow F3 is averted. By the avoidance of the collision, the generation of vortexes is prevented and the inclusion of powder is prevented.
