Abstract
PURPOSE: To obtain the titled compound, by hydrating acrylonitrile in the presence of an easily preparable highly active catalyst obtained by reducing a molybdenum compound.
CONSTITUTION: Acrylonitrile is catalystically hydrated in the presence of a catalyst obtained by treating a molybdenum compound, e.g. molybdic acid (salt), a molybdenum halide or phosphomolybdic acid (salt), with a reducing agent, e.g. boron hydride or hypophosphite of an alkali metal, with water in a molar amount of 1W50 times that of the acrylonitrile at 50W150°C to give acrylamide.
