Abstract

PURPOSE:To eliminate cavitation, by detecting an ultrasonic signal resulting from the cavitation on a cylinder liner, to mix air into cooling water to suppress the water pressure fluctuation of the cavitation. CONSTITUTION:When cavitation has occurred on the cylinder liner of an engine, a piezoelectric element 21 which is an ultrasonic wave sensor detects a signal proportional to the intensity of the cavitation. The detected signal is amplified by an amplifier 23. The amplified signal is filtered by a high-pass filter 24 to take out only the component corresponding to the intensity of the cavitation. The component is amplified by a power amplifier 25. Flow control valves 13, 14 are maintained at a degree of opening proportional to the output signal of the power amplifier 25, so that a quantity of air proportional to the degree of opening is mixed into cooling water from the air supply section 3 of a radiator. The cooling water and the air are then conducted to the cooling line of the engine.
