Abstract
NEW MATERIAL:An antibiotic substance C-22-4A of the antibiotic substance C- 22-4. Appearance: white or light yellow powder. melting point: 205W208°C. Specific rotatory power:[α]D25 -43° (C=0.5, 50% methanol-water). Elementary analysis (%): C, 47.03; H, 6.52; N, 13.56; O, 25.12; Cl, 6.12. Molecular weight; 1,000W2,000. Solubility: soluble in hydrous alcohol and water and insoluble in acetone, ethyl acetate, chloroform, etc.
USE: An antimicrobial agent and water-soluble peptide antibiotic.
PROCESS: A microorganism, belonging to the genus Streptomyces, and having the ability to produce the antibiotic sustance C-22-4, (FERM-P No.5748), is cultivated in a fermenter at 25W35°C by the spinner culture method with aeration, and the aimed substance is adsorbed from the filtrate with "DiaionHP-20", etc. The substance is then eluted with equeous acetone, and purified to give the aimed antibiotic substance C-22-4.
