Abstract
PURPOSE:To increase the liquid leakage resistance of a battery by filling the sealing part with a liquid gasket, which becomes tacky by absorbing ultraviolet rays, before ultraviolet rays are irradiated on the liquid to seal the battery. CONSTITUTION:A positive active material 2 is pressed and fixed to a platelike metal case 1, before a separator 3, and a negative active material 4 which is packed in a metal sealing plate 5 are placed on the material 2, thereby a manganese dioxide- zinc alkaline battery or the like being constituted. A sealing gasket 6 is interposed between the ends of the sealing plate 5 and the case 1. A liquid gasket 7, which is made of a copolymer of 2-(ethylhexyl acrylate) and methyl methacrylate and be- comes tacky by absorbing ultraviolet rays, is filled in the space surrounded by the case 1, the plate 5 and the gasket 6, thereby the battery being sealed. By the means mentioned above, the leakage route of the electrolyte is completely blocked by sealing the battery through the irradiation of ultraviolet rays. Consequently, the liquid- leakage resistant performance of the battery can be increased.
