Abstract

PURPOSE: To avoid defects based on welded beads, by pinch-holding cutter steel on both its sides to weld soft steel thereon and rolling the assembly perpendicularly to both its sides, cutting off the welded bead from one side and metallurgically conjoining other soft steel to the other side.
CONSTITUTION: Cutter steel 10 of appropriate size is pinched between a pair of soft steel pieces 11, 11 of appropriate size and welded thereon along the contact edges to obtain a workpiece 12 to be rolled. The workpiece 12 is primarily rolled at the forge welding temperature so that the cutter steel 10 is metallurgically conjoined to the soft steel 11. At least one side of the rolled workpiece 13 with welded beads on both its sides is cut to remove the welded bead to obtain a processed side 13a. The other side 13b is then put on other soft steel 11 and welded thereon along the contact edge. After that, the workpiece is secondarily rolled at the forge welding temperature to metallurgically conjoin the latter soft steel to the side 13b.
