Abstract
PURPOSE:To eliminate the astigmatism of a principal lens by forming three round holes on the opposed surface of two box-type electrodes which constitute the principal lens so that a part of each of these holes can be connected to the adjacent one and installing an electrode with three independent round holes a specified distance apart backward from the opposed surface. CONSTITUTION:Three electron beam passing holes (a) are formed on the opposed surface of the box-type third grid 5 and fourth grid 4 which constitute a principal lens so that their diameters can be larger than the hole interval and each round hole (a) is connected to the adjacent one. The second electrode 9 provided with three independent round holes (a1) is installed a distance ''l'' apart backward from its opposed surface. The three round holes (a1) of the second electrode 9 are provided concentrically with the before mentioned three round holes (a). As a result, the rotary symmetry of the principal lens is maintained in comparatively satisfactory condition and astigmatism can be eliminated.
