Abstract
PURPOSE:To cast clean hollow blank material of stable quality by applying a degassing treatment to molten metal in a molten metal holding vessel at the time of growing solidified shells sucessively by using a cooled mold. CONSTITUTION:In growing solidified shells 8 successively by using a cooled mold 1 and drawing a hollow blank material, degassed teeming is carried out through an air feed and release pipe 14 at the time of teeming molten metal from a ladle 11 into a molten metal treating vessel 12 connected to a molten metal holding vessel 2. Further, an immersion pipe 16 regulated to negative pessure is immersed in the vessel 12, and the molten steel is flowed circularly by this in combination with inert gas bubbling, whereby degassing and the removal of nonmetallic inclusions are accomplished. The molten metal cleaned by this treatment is flowed in the form of spray down into the vessel 2 through a flow rate regulating valve 9 provided to a conduit passage 13. According to this method, the clean hollow blank material for the purpose of pipe making is produced and the cost of production is lowered.
