CONSTITUTION:A reference signal (d) inputted to a phase comparator 7 of a capstan controlling system 2 is connected with a cyclic counting signal (i) of each bit of a reference counter 12 limited only to a specific slope by a reference signal gate circuit 14. As a result, a comparison signal (c) is set so that it is synchronized with the center of slope. When the tape speed is slow, the signal (i) is switched and the slope is mitigated to reduce the loop gain. In this case, the circuit 14 is switched and set so that the center of slope of the signal (d) is coincident with the center of slope when the tape speed is faster. Thus, the change in the synchronizing phase due to the switching of the loop gain can be avoided, and the phase of a reference signal (e) of a drum control system 3 is not required for switching and fixed to a prescribed value.
