Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain a thermoplastic resin suspension in good polymer yields with little formation of fine particles, by subjecting an emulsion-polymerized thermoplastic resin to phase inversion by continuously adding thereto a specified proportion of the total amount of a suspending agent to be added to the resin.
CONSTITUTION: In converting an emulsion-polymerized thermoplastic resin latex into a suspension by using a suspending agent, at least 10wt% of the total suspending agent is added continuously. The suspending agent can be added in such a manner that the total amount is added continuously or that, after at most 90wt% of the total amount is added batchwise or in portions, the remainder is added continuously. Or at least 10wt% of the total amount is added continuously and, then, the remainder is added at a time or in portions. As the suspending agents, there can be preferably used hydroxyethylcellulose, polyvinyl alcohol, sodium salt of carboxymethylcellulose and high-molecular coagulants.
