Abstract
PURPOSE: To obtain the titled article which retains the inherent gloss of a thermoplastic resin at its surface and is devoid of defects of appearance such as flow marks and sliver streaks, by a method wherein a layer with little deformation of rubber is formed in the proximity of the surface of a reinforced polystyrene (PS) molded article.
CONSTITUTION: In the condition where an inductor 3 for high-grequency induction heating is placed between a fixed-side metallic mold 1 and a movable-side metallic mold 2, a high-frequency wave is generated to rapidly raise the temperature of mold surfaces (points A and B) only. Then, the inductor 3 is removed, the molds are reclosed and rubber-reinforced PS is injection molded. The adhesion between the resin and the molds is sufficient at the time of molding, while at the time of mold releasing, the mold surfaces are easily cooled to below the thermal deformation temperature of the resin, and a layer (a skin layer) having a thickness of 1W100μ and involving little deformation of rubber is formed in the proximity of the surface of the molded article. When a rubber-reinforced PS containing not less than 4wt% of rubber component is injection molded, a molded article having a surface gloss Gs (60 degrees) % (ASTM D 523) of not less than 80% can be obtained.
