Abstract

PURPOSE:To confirm a driving fault of a magnetic tape, by detecting an optical variation point of the magnetic tape when starting the tape, and operating an information means when its detection signal is not outputted within a prescribed time. CONSTITUTION:When a control driving signal is outputted to a magnetic tape device 3 and a timer circuit 6 through a control interface 4 from a CPU1, a magnetic tape 13 is rotated and the timer circuit 6 is operated. Subsequently, when a tape mark such as silver paper, etc. provided on the tape 13 has been detected by a tape mark detector 18, the timer circuit 6 stops its operation. As a result, the CPU1 executes recording and reproducing in accordance with a counting value of a block counter 5. On the other hand, unless the detector 18 detects the tape mark within a prescribed time, an error signal is outputted from the timer circuit 6, and the CPU1 operates an alarm 2. In this way, a driving fault such as tight fit, etc. of the tape 13 is confirmed.
