Abstract
PURPOSE: To obtain an Al alloy for a VTR cylinder, having enough surface hardness and wear resistance, is excellent in machinability and capable of being subjected to cold forging, containing specified ingredients of Cu, Fe, Si, Mg, Ti, Ni, etc.
CONSTITUTION: The alloy is prepared to contain 0.5W1.0wt% of Cu, 10W14wt% of Si, 0.5W2.0wt% of Mg, 0.01W0.2wt% of Ti, 0.5W2.0wt% of Ni, 0.8W2.0wt% one or more metals chosen from the group consisting of Pb, Bi, and Sn, and balance of Al and usual impurities. This cast mass is extruded into a prescribed round bar, and it is subjected to cold forging so that it has a shape approximately similar to that of a VTR cylinder. Thereafter, it is subjected to T6 treatment, and then only necessary parts thereof are cut to obtain a VTR cylinder.
