Abstract

PURPOSE: The titled resin having improved pigment dispersion without damaging water resistance, alkali resistance, and weather resistance, obtained by introducing an unsaturated dicarboxylic acid having a specific structure into a copolymer of methacrylic acid and vinyl acetate.
CONSTITUTION: (A) 0.1W5wt% polymerizable unsaturated dicarboxylic acid shown by the formula (R is H or methyl; X is 2W4C alkyl) consisting of (i) a hydroxyl group-containing (meth)acrylic acid ester (e.g., 2-hydroxyethyl acrylate, etc.) and (ii) benzenetricaboxylic acid anhydride, (B) 29.9W70wt% vinyl acetate, (C) 25W70wt% methyl methacrylate, and (D) 0W45wt% polymerizable monomer (e.g., methyl acrylate, etc.) copolymerizable components A, B, and C are copolymerized preferably by solution polymerization, to give the desired resin.
