Abstract
PURPOSE:To protect optical fiber cores and a feeder in bending a gimbal joint and to improve the durability, by providing a flexible connecting device between a submarine cable and a submarine optical repeater. CONSTITUTION:A connecting device 21 is provided between the housing 8 of a submarine optical repeater 5 and a submarine optical calbe 1 connected by a gimbal joint 13. The optical fiber cores 3 of the optical cable 1 are led into the formed terminal 22 of the connecting device and bundled into a fiber unit as an extra length part after being led out of the terminal by turning around an adhered tensile strength wire 2, thereby connecting it to a batch type feed-through 17. The fiber unit between the terminal 22 and feedthrough 17 is contained in a flexible pipe consisting of a closely wound coil spring as the flexible pipe and corrugated pipe and synthetic resin provided at the outside of it.
