Abstract

PURPOSE: To prevent air-fuel mixture from becoming too lean at the time of opening a stop valve in an engine of the type capable of resting part of cylinders at the time of low-load operation of the engine by closing a shut-off valve provided in a rest intake passage, by providing a dashpot for restricting the opening speed of the stop valve.
CONSTITUTION: At the time of partial-cylinder operation of an engine in its low- load operational range, a rest intake passage 2B is closed completely by a stop valve 5. On the other hand, when the partial-cylinder operation is shifted to full-cylinder operation along with increasing of engine load, the shut-off valve 5 is turned clockwise and opened by a link rod 25 and a lever 17, so that air-fuel mixture produced by a carburetor is supplied also to the rest intake passage 2B for setting all of cylinders #1W#6 into operation. Here, since the top of the lever 17 comes into abutment with a rod 18 of a dashpot 15 as the shut-off valve 5 is opened, the turning speed of the lever 17 is determined by the biasing force of a spring 24 acted to a diaphragm 22, resistance of air flow released from a damper chamber 23 to the outside, etc. Therefore, opening motion of the shut-off valve 5 can be rendered adequate.
