Abstract
PURPOSE:To hold the cleaning performance of a web higher than prescribed performance capability all the time even if picture density varies, by controlling a cleaning performance controlling means on the basis of the detection signal of a picture density detecting means. CONSTITUTION:Cleaning devices 8 and 28 perform cleaning by pressing a web 34, made of cloth, paper, etc., against a photosensitive drum 2 and a fixing roller 24 to be cleaned by an elastic body 46 made of rubber, etc. In this case, a toner supplementing device 30 is operated by the output signal of a toner density detector 29 fitted to a developing device 6 to adjust toner density to a nearly constant value, and the detection signal of the detector 29 is sent to an OR gate 44 together with a signal outputted intermittenly from a signal generator 45; and a driving motor 43 for driving roller 37 and 38 for the web 34 is controlled to control the take-up speed of the web 34, holding the performance of cleaning nearly constant.
