Abstract
PURPOSE: Calcium sulfate which is formed on the desulfurization of exhaust gases from heavy oil or coal combustion with calcium oxide is treated in a specific fluidized bed-type regeneration furnace to convert the calcium sulfate into calcium oxide with the formation of a small amount of calcium sulfide.
CONSTITUTION: The air box is formed by use of a porous distribution plate 12 under the fluidized bed furnace and separated into two sections 13A and 13B with a plate 19. The mixed particles of calcium sulfate and calcium oxide 14 formed by the removal of sulfur dioxide from the exhaust gas on heavy oil or coal combustion with calcium oxide are placed on the distribution plate 12, the inside of the furnace is heated up to 1,050°C and coal as a fuel is fed from the pipe 25. At the same time, air is fed from the pipe 20 into the air box 13A and the exhaust gas of low oxygen concentration is fed to the box 13B to form the fluidized bed 11. The feed rate of the coal is adjusted to about 0.8 to the air feed rate to reduce the formation of calcium sulfide and increase the calcium oxide content.
