Abstract

PURPOSE:To prevent an ink passage or the like from clogging effectively without providing a clog preventing device by a method wherein when printing is suspended in an ink jet recording device a piezo element is driven at a voltage under the threshold voltage necessary for the formation of flying liquid drops. CONSTITUTION:A piezo element 8 of a recording head 1 is driven by a drive signal from a driving source 6, droplets of ink are discharged from an orifice 10 and fly and printing is conducted on the surface of recording paper 5, but when printing is suspended or stopped, a driving signal of a voltage under the threshold voltage necessary for the formation of flying liquid drops is supplied by a driving source 7 to the piezo element 8. Accordingly, the orifice 10, a meniscus 10-1 under negative voltage state and a meniscus 10-2 under a positive voltage state are repeated in their operation and ink is prevented from being solidifIed at the point of the nozzle.
