Abstract

PURPOSE:To prevent the breakage of a gas diffusion electrode and to eable the use of a microfilter having a microstructure by installing a liq. valve which works under certain pressure conditions between the demister and the electrolytic cell of an oxygen separating apparatus. CONSTITUTION:Oxygen generated from an electrolytic cell 1 enters a demister 2 through a leading-out pipe 13, and it is freed of steam, splashes of an electrolytic soln., etc. by a filter 14. A pipe 18 is branched from the pipe 13 and immersed in propylene glycol 17 in a liq. valve container 16 installed between the cell 1 and the demister 2. When the filter 14 is clogged to raise the pressure of gaseous oxygen in the pipe 13, gaseous oxygen pushes propylene glycol in the pipe 18 downward and leaves the system from the oxygen releasing output 19 as bubbles. When the bubbles are detected, the filter 14 is exchanged. By this mechanism the breakage of a gas diffusion electrode 4 and the leakage of a soln. from the adhered parts of the cell 1 are prevented.
