Abstract
PURPOSE:To prevent the production of flaws on the surface of a strip by holding the suspended state of the strip by the hot wind from floaters in a continuous annealing furnace for strips. CONSTITUTION:The continuous annealing furnace for strips is constituted of a preheating zone A, a heating and soaking zone B, and a cooling zone C. A strip S first enters the zone A, where it is preheated by the hot wind of a relatively low temp. of <=850 deg.C blown from flaters 3 to the top and bottom surface thereof, and the strip is held in a roughly horizontally suspended state. Next, it enters the zone B constituted of heat insulating furnace walls 4 flexing at an angle alpha of inclination from the mid-part, where it is heated and soaked to prescribed 900-1,150 deg.C annealing temps. by the heat sources provided in the walls 4. Next, it is introduced into the zone C, where while it is cooled by the cold wind blown from above and below in chambers 6, 7, it is pulled out from the zone C by support rolls 5 and hearth rolls 8. Since no hearth rolls are used for the preheating, heating and soaking parts, the production of flaws on the strip surfaces by the hearth rolls is obviated.
