Abstract
PURPOSE: To produce a honeycomb shaped molding having the porosity of ceramics and the high strength of metal in combination by molding the mixture prepd. by compounding colloidal silica and coloidal alumina with metallic powder with extrusion dies and drying the molding then sintering the same.
CONSTITUTION: For example, Fe, Al, Cu, etc. and various alloy powders are used for the metallic powder, and the maximum particle sizes thereof are about ≤2/3 the slit thickness of extrusion dies, wherein the particles of grain sizes about ≥1/2 the slit thickness are about ≤20% the entire part and about ≤10% particles of about 1/5 are contained. The colloidal silica and colloidal alumina function as a binder, and form metallic skeleton by holding the metallic powder particles, thereby forming a composite sintered compact. This mixture is extruded and molded from dies under ≥90kg/cm2 the pressure to be exerted upon the inside surface of the dies at ≥5mm/sec linear speed. Thence, the molding is heated and dried, after which it is sintered in a prescribed atmosphere.
