Abstract

PURPOSE:To suppress potential variation in an active space near a cathode and the generation of noise by a methode whetein a drain electrode for catching and collecting (+) ions is provided near the cathode and a suitable potential is given to the electrode. CONSTITUTION:A cathode 25 is supplied with current and heated by a heating current supplied to cathode terminals 34, 35. On the other hand, a sleeve-shaped support 57 for a drain electrode 60 is arranged on the outside of and concentrically with a sleeve-shaped support 33 for the cathode, while one end of the drain electrode 60 wound up in a coil is attached and fixed to a condutive sleeve located at the lower end of a support 57 for the drain electrode. In addition, the drain electrode 60 is allowed to have the same potential as that of the cathode 25, or a negative potential against the cathode 25, so that the variation of potential in an active space near the cathode 25 is suppressed.
