Abstract

PURPOSE:To improve the starting characteristic of a fuel cell, by attaching a heater to a part of a circulation channel in which electrolyte or anolyte circulates and heating the electrolyte or anolyte with the heater. CONSTITUTION:A circulation channel 8 is joined to a cell stack 7 composed of scores of superposed single cells whole electrodes are connected in series to each other, anolyte is circulated by a pump 9, and the anolyte is supplied to a fuel chamber 6 in the stack 7. On the other hand, air is supplied to an air chamber in the stack 7 through a blast channel 12 by a fan 11. A heater 10 is wound around a part of the anolyte circulation channel 8, and the circulating anolyte is heated by the heater 10. Thus, the stack 7 is heated, resulting in a rise of temperature.
