Abstract

PURPOSE:To prevent generation of distortion, by reinforcing the connecting part with a reinforcing body in a state that optical fibers remain held by the clamps. CONSTITUTION:Covering layers 4A, 5A of the tip parts of optical fibers 4, 5 are removed, and are held by clamps 10, 11. The covering layer 4A is supported by a notch groove 13 of a rotation body 14 of the clamp 10, and the covering layer 5A is fixed to the clamp 10. The tip parts of the optical fibers 4, 5 are finely adjusted in the (x) and (y) directions and in the (r) direction by guides 8, 9, and the clamp 10, respectively, and after that, are made to adhere and are connected by discharge of electrodes 6, 7. Subsequently, the optical fibers 4, 5 are moved in the (x) direction together with the clamps 10, 11, a sleevelike reinforcing body 20 which is divided into two is fitted into them, and they are covered in one body with an adhesive agent. In this way, generation of distortion in the connecting part is prevented.
