Abstract
PURPOSE: An antifungal composition that contains a combination of 3-isothiazoline with 5-pyrazolone as active ingredients, thus showing increased antiseptic and antifungal effects and causing no adverse effect on a water-containing composition susceptible to microbial invasion.
CONSTITUTION: A 3-isothiazolone of formula I (X is H, Cl) such as 5-chloro-2- methyl-3-isothiazolone, which shows controlling effect over a wide range of microorganisms such as bacteria, fungi, yeasts or the like but causes some troubles in a water-containing composition such as gelation, is mixed with a 5-pyrazoline of formula II (Y is H, lower alkyl, halogen; X is halogen) such as 4-bromo-3-methyl-5- pyrazolone at a weight ratio of 1 to (2W10) and the mixture is used as active ingredients to give the objective antifungal composition, having no danger of residual effect and pollution and showing high antiseptic and antifungal activity steadily by simple operations in low costs. The composition is prepared by a usual method and added to a water phase which is apt to form slimes such as paper-making water.
