Abstract

PURPOSE:To attain miniaturization and to improve operability by eliminating influences of fluctuation in scanning speed and variance in bar code print precision, by analysing an electric signal output from a hand scanner on the basis of a guide bar or the width of one character bar. CONSTITUTION:A hand scanner 1 includes a light emitting body 1-1 and a photodetecting element 1-2, and light from the light emitting body 1-1 is caused to strike bar code symbols S for a manual scan; and variation in the quantity of reflected light which corresponds to a difference in reflection factor between a white bar and a black bar is received by the element 1-2 to be converted into an electric signal. This electric signal is applied to an analyzer 2. Then, how many modules compose each width forming the symbols S is analyzed on the basis of a guide bar scanned right before the bar or the width of one character bar. The result is led to an output terminal in decimal form.
