Abstract

PURPOSE: To remove and to collect Zr and Hf respectively and efficiently from a solution containing them, by using two kinds of ion exchange resins alternately having different selective adsorbability in the adsorption treatment.
CONSTITUTION: An aqueous solution containing both Zr and Hf which is acidified by a mineral acid is brought into contact with a weak basic anion exchange resin (a resin having tertiary amino group as an exchange group, vinylpyridine resin, etc.) adsorbing selectively Zr or a strong acidic cation exchange resin (sulfonic acid type resin) adsorbing Hf selectively, so that Zr of Hf is adsorbed on the exchange resin. For example, a concentrated solution of the residue solution after adsorbing selectively Zr and a solution obtained by eluting Hf with a mineral acid from the strong acidic cation exchange resin adsorbing Hf and subjected to the second Zr adsorption, to give a solution having concetrated Hf as an adsorption residue solution. While in the similar way, a solution having concentrated Zr is obtained.
