Abstract
PURPOSE:To facilitate the start of discharge by providing a metallic pin conducting with a metal pot from the inner bottom face of the metal pot filled with an emitter toward the open section such that the tip isn't consealed, thereby concentrating the electric field at the tip of the metal pin. CONSTITUTION:In a sintered electrode for a discharge lamp such as a fluorescent lamp, a metal pin 8 electrically conducting with a metal pot 7 is provided from the inner bottom face 7a of the metal pot 7 filled with an emitter 9 toward an open section 7b such that the tip isn't consealed. Here the tip of the pin 8 is formed through the electrolytic abrasion into a needle while the powder of at least one element selected from W, Ta, Zr, Fe is mixed to the emitter 9. Since the electric field produced during the start of a discharge lamp will concentrate at the tip, the time required for the heating of the emitter 9 is shortened resulting in the facilitation of the starting.
