Abstract
PURPOSE:To seal a gas or liquid cladding type optical fiber completely by bringing specific materials which are an input window and an output window for light into close contact with both the ends of a water-absorptive optical fiber and by sealing both the ends of a jacket with caps supporting the fiber and both the windows. CONSTITUTION:An input window 3a and an output window 3b for light are brought into close contact with both ends of an optical fiber 2, of CsI, CsBr, CsBrI, etc., where light ranging from the visible range to the infrared range is transmissible. The windows 3a and 3b are made of cylindrical or prismatic ZnSe single crystal, and the diameter of the input window 3a is equal to or less than that of the fiber 2. The diameter of the output window 3b is made greater than that of the fiber 2 to avoid light emission . Their close contact parts are supported in holes made in sealing materials (waterproof materials made of silicon or metal) to seal a jacket 1 completely. In the jacket, a gas or liquid 5 is sealed as a cladding material to prevent the water absorption and oxidation of the fiber. Thus, even a moisture- absorptive and poisonous optical fiber suitable for high-power transmission in usable in safety for a medical and a machining treatment.
