Abstract
PURPOSE: To stably treat industrial wastes by a melting method in which decomposition gas taken out of a melting furnace is burned, the concentration of NOx present in the gas formed is detected, and according to the detected value, the concentration of decomposition gas in the melting furnace is controlled.
CONSTITUTION: A base metal is charged into a melting furnace 1, and then a voltage is applied to electrodes 1A, 1B, and 1C to generate arc between each electrode and the base metal, whereby forming base metal melt 2. When charging substances to be treated, e.g., industrial wastes, onto said base metal melt 2 through a feeder 11, organics present in the substances are decomposed to gases and also inorganics present are melted to form melt 3. The temperature of said decomposition gas is measured by a thermometer 4, converted into electric signal by a temperature converter 5, and put in power regulator 6 to control the amount of power to be applied to the electrodes 1A, 1B, and 1C.
