Abstract
PURPOSE: To obtain the titled compound useful as a raw material for polyurethane at a high catalytic activity, by reacting an aromatic nitro compound with a compound containing a hydroxyl group and CO in the presence of a platinum group metallic catalyst containing vanadium and an iron component and tertiary amine.
CONSTITUTION: An aromatic nitro compound, e.g. nitrobenzene, is reacted with an organic compound having a hydroxyl group, e.g. methanol or phenol, in the presence of a platinum group metal and/or a compound thereof, e.g. Pd, Ru or Pt, and a tertiary amine, e.g. triethylamine, to give an aromatic carbamic ester. In the process, (A) metallic vanadium and/or a compound thereof, e.g. vanadium trichloride, and (B) metallic iron and/or at least one iron compound selected from an oxide, hydroxide, carbonyl compound or organic complex compound therepf are added to the reaction system. The aimed product can be obtained in high purity because the catalytic activity is high and the small amount of the catalyst is enough.
