Abstract

PURPOSE: A cleaning agent for a soft contact lens, containing a hypochlorite, bleaching powder or chloramine, and useful for decoloring and cleaning a yellowed soft contact lens.
CONSTITUTION: A yellowed soft contact lens is immersed and allowed to stand in an aqueous solution containing a hypochlorite, preferably sodium hypochlorite or potassium hypochlorite, bleaching powder or chloramine, preferably chloramine T, in a concentration of 10W10,000ppm, preferably 50W5,000ppm, at a pH of 4W9, preferably pH of 5W8, preferably at room temperature for 6W48hr or 80W100°C for 10minW2hr. A firm staining which cannot be easily removed by an acid, alkali or proteolytic enzymic agent, i.e. coloring, can be removed. The adsorption and accumulation of the decoloring agent on the soft contact lens are not observed.
