Abstract

PURPOSE: To ensure a more effective use of regenerative brake by a method wherein augmentation of braking power by an air brake is not effected in cases where a full employment of braking power is not required in controlling a train.
CONSTITUTION: A train operation controlling device 1 receives a train speed signal (a), an ATC signal (b), and a ground element signal (c) and yields a powering command (d) or a braking command (e). A braking command deciding unit 2, on receiving a braking command (e) and a train condition information signal (f), decides whether an air brake should be combinedly applied. A decision for an additional application of an air brake causes the output of an addition-of-air-brake- approved signal (g). An air brake controlling unit 5, upon receiving an addition- of-air-brake-approved signal (g), determines the size of the shortage of the regenerative brake (i) force and operates the air brake to make up for the shortage.
