Abstract

PURPOSE: To perform smooth operation of stopping valve acting devices in an engine whose cylinders are partially allowed to be in idle operation with the stopping of the particular valve acting devices in accordance with an operational state of the engine, by performing the operation and stop of the valve acting device with an oil hydraulically operated mechanism.
CONSTITUTION: When pressure oil from an oil hydraulic pump 6 is fed to a supply line 7 through a control valve 5, this pressure oil passes thtough supply passages 27, 19 to open a ball check valve 17 against a spring 18 and flow into an oil pressure chamber 15. In this way, a rocker arm 3 and plunger 11 are substantially fixed, and intake exhaust valves 1, 2 are open-close operated by a rocking motion of the rocker arm 3 actuated by a cam on a cam shaft 4. While if the supply line 7 is opened to the atmosphere by action of the control valve 5, oil pressure in supply passages 26, 27 lowers to both close the check valve 17 and allow a spring to actuate a piston valve 20, then the oil pressure chamber 15 is opened to the atmosphere through a passage 24. In this way, the plunger 11 becomes a freely sliding state to stop operations of the both valves 1, 2.
