Abstract
PURPOSE: To prevent deposited metal from hanging down in performing butt welding of circumferential part in all positions by an arc welding machine using a nonconsumable electrode by applying or stopping current to a coil wound on the weld zone.
CONSTITUTION: When welding butted weld zone 18 of metallic tubes 10a, 10b in all positions by an arc using a nonconsumable electrode 20, a coil is wound around a tube 10a to be welded and current is controlled according to the progress of welding. When weld in a down-moving welding area (b), current is applied to the coil 28, and when shifted to an overhead welding area C, current flowing in the coil 28 is cut off. When welding is further shifted to an overhead welding area (d), welding is performed by applying current in oppposite direction to the coil 28. When an electrode 20 is shifted to a downhand welding area (a), current in the coil 28 is cut off. By Fleming's left-hand rule due to magnetic line of force Φ generated by welding current (i) and current I of the coil 28, the welding arc is deflected upward in the up-moving and down-moving areas (b), (d) to prevent deposited metal from hanging down.
