Abstract
PURPOSE:To improve the operativity and reliability of an original feeder by returning the original which has been conveyed but has failed to be held by a holding means to conveying means side. CONSTITUTION:An original O is fed from a paper feed tray 202 by way of an original feed roller 203, original separating rollers 204a, 204b, timing rollers 205a, 205b, etc. If the leading end of this original O fails to be held by a glipper 222 turning integrally with an original holding drum 206, said original O is conveyed through an original return path by a conveying roller pair 253 via an original conveyance branch path 250 without being conveyed to an exposure part E. It is then returned to original conveying means side. On the other hand, if the leading end of the original O which is being conveyed is detected by the sensors 245a, 245b provided near the rollers 204a, 204b and the original O is conveyed obliquely, a gripper 22 does not hold the original O. By the system of automatically returning this non- held original to the conveying side, the occurrence of jam and the like is prevented, and the original feeder of improved operativity and reliability is provided.
