Abstract

PURPOSE:To fix a fiber accurately without deteriorating the characteristics of an optical element by forming layers including a metallic flux layer on each of the surfaces of the attaching part of the fiber and a fiber table and irradiating the flux with laser beams to fix the fiber. CONSTITUTION:On the surface of the attaching part of an optical fiber 10 Ti, Pt and Au are vapor-deposited in succession in 1000Angstrom , 3000Angstrom and 1.5mum thickness, respectively to laminate a Ti layer 11, a Pt layer 12 and an AuSn flux layer 13. On the other hand, an SiO2 layer 15 is formed on the surface of a fiber table 14 having a V-groove, and on the layer 15 a Ti layer 11, a Pt layer 12 and an AuSn layer 13 are laminated similarly. The fiber 10 is put in the groove of the table 14, and after adjusting the table 14 to the optimum position to semiconductor laser 2, the attached part is irradiated with Nd or YAG laser beams to melt the AuSn layer 13, thereby fixing the fiber 10 to the table 14. Because of instantaneous irradiation, the laser 2 is not deteriorated by heating. The work efficiency is enhanced, and the positions of the laser element 2 and the fiber 10 are adjusted accurately. AuGe, AuSi or the like may be used as the metallic flux 13.
