Abstract
PURPOSE: To economically produce a tip of superior excavating performance and durability by coating superhard alloy powder on the blade edge end or the part that serves as an excavating surface of the blade edge end of a tip in a mold for cutter tips then pouring base casting steel into the mold.
CONSTITUTION: Superhard alloy powder is disposed only on the blade edge end of the cutter tip in a mold for cutter tips or the part that serves as an excavating surface 1 at the blade edge end, after which cast steel which is an ordinary base material 2 is poured and is hardened by sintering to simultaneously cast the excavating surface 1 for the blade edge end of the superhard alloy and the base material 2, thereby manufacturing the cutter tip. This method is a so-called metal clad casting method, whereby the fracture at the blade edge can be prevented because the surface 1 harder than bedrock is supported by the material 2 which is softer and more ductile than the same. Since there is no need for heat treatment and machining and just a small amount of superhard alloy is required, this method is economical.
