Abstract

PURPOSE:To ensure a highly efficient production of a magnetic tape which uses its base film itself for a leader tape as well as a trailer tape, by using a mask material. CONSTITUTION:A mask material 2 such as an adhesive tape, etc. is provided on a base film 1 in a full width of the film 1 and with a prescribed space. Then a magnetic layer 3 is coated over the entire area of a single surface of the film 1 including the material 2. After this, the material 2 is removed to expose the film 1, and the film 1 is cut widthwise at the center of the exposed area. Thus a magnetic tape 4 of a prescribed length having an exposed area 4L to be used as a leader tape and an exposed area 4T to be used as a trailer tape formed at an end and the other end of the tape nespectively is obtained.
