Abstract

PURPOSE: To produce a molding polyester, with good reaction stability, by subjecting polyester prepolymer chips to a specified pretreatment and, then, subjecting the treated chips to solid-phase polymerization.
CONSTITUTION: An acid component, e.g., terephthalic acid, and an alcohol component, e.g., ethylene glycol, are molten and polycondensed to form a polyester prepolymer, limiting viscosity ≥0.3, and the prepolymer is formed into chips in the form of die, cylinder or the like. Next, the prepolymer chips are charged into a crystallization tank provided with an impeller, and crystallized therein under agitation at an agitator power consumption of below 2WH/kg under a stream of heated (120W190°C) inert gas. Next, the chips are transferred to a storage tank, allowed to stand, heat-treated at below 90°C under a stream of heated inert gas to give a density higher than 1.39g/cm3, and solid phase-polymerized under vacuum or a stream of inert gas at 200W250°C to obtain a molding polyester, limiting viscosity ≥0.6.
