Abstract

PURPOSE: To enable the change of the capacity of an exhaust turbine and improve the performance of a supercharger within a wide range of revolution speed, by providing a movable partition wall so that it can be moved back and forth relative to the volute passage of the nozzleless radial turbine in the axial direction of the turbine.
CONSTITUTION: A volute casing 20 is provided with a lid 21. The lid 21 is fitted with a movable partition wall 22 which can be moved in a volute passage 14 in the axial direction of a turbine. The partition wall 22 extends in a volute form from the butt At of the volute passage 14 to its tip 15 and is provided with a guide portion 26 at the butt At of the volute passage 14. The partition wall 22 is moved back and forth by a driving means 25 actuated depending on the rotational frequency of an engine. To reduce the cross-sectional area of the volute passage 14, the movable partition wall 22 is moved forth so that its front edge is supported in a housing recess 23 provided on the inside surface of the casing 20.
