Abstract
PURPOSE: To prepare the titled substance in high efficiency, by culturing fungus belonging to Penicillium genus and capable of producing the titled substance, adjusting the consumption of the hydrocarbon to a specific level and keeping the pH within a specific range.
CONSTITUTION: Microorganisms belonging to Penicillium genus, e.g. Penicillium brevi-compactum QM8406(FERM-P No.5414), Penicillium stoloniferum ATCC 10111, etc., are cultured in a conventional medium for the production of mycophenolic acid. The carbon source may be added to the medium in one portion before cultivation or dividedly during the cultivation. After the initiation of the cultivation, the pH of the cultivation liquid is adjusted to 2.5W4.5 when the consumption of the hydrocarbon is 2W15g/dl, and to 5.5W7.5 thereafter. The adjustment of pH is carried out by adding ammonia gas or aqueous ammonia to the medium, and the produced mycophenolic acid can be separated by conventional method.
