Abstract

PURPOSE:To reduce the cost of the copy paper and at the same time to increase the editing function, etc., by calculating both the position and the width of an image to be copied on an original through a proper arithmetic device and selecting the optimum transfer paper based on the result of the above-mentioned operation. CONSTITUTION:The part to be copied of an image on an original O is selected like an image part 2a with a desired width in the direction orthogonal to the moving direction of a scan optical system 1 of all ranges of the image. The part 2a is scanned and an image 2a' is formed on a photoreceptor. At the same time, an image 2b' is formed on the photoreceptor to an image part 2b having a larger width than the image 2a. The transfer papers S1-S4 of different sizes are prepared at a paper feed part. Then the smallest paper S2 and S3 that can cover the images 2a' and 2b' are selected to transcribe these images on the transfer paper.
