Abstract
PURPOSE: To enhance the stiffness of the part requiring high strength such as a fitting seat, by a method wherein a reinforcing thermoplastic resin is impregnated under pressure into a desired part of a fibrous material prepared by mixing inorganic or organic fibers with a thermosetting resin and a crosslinking agent, and the fibrous material is molded and hardened.
CONSTITUTION: A thermoplastic resin P such as polypropylene, nylon or the like is charged into the interior of a cylinder part 12 of a lower mold 11 incorporating a heater H, above the top of pistons 13, and it is melted by heating. Then, a plate form fibrous material F consisting of a mixture of inorganic or organic fibers with a thermosetting resin and a crosslinking agent is placed between the lower mold 11 and an upper mold 10 incorporating a heater H, the upper mold 10 is lowered to pressure-mold the fibrous material F, and the pistons 13 are moved upwards so that the resin P in the cylinder part 12 is impregnated into the fibrous material F and is hardened. Thereafter, the molded article is removed from the molds 10, 11 and is cooled to obtain a cover 14 for engines which is reinforced at its fitting seat.
